Germany to ban glyphosate

Germany said it intends to ban glyphosate by 2023.

Politicians said the move is being made to protect insect foods. It will apply to all property owners, both farmers and urbanites.

Bayer, which bought Monsanto and its Roundup glyphosate products, responded by saying scientists have affirmed that glyphosate can be safely used to kill plants.

Bayer is facing hundreds of lawsuits in the United States, claiming Roundup caused cancers. Juries have made huge cash awards in the first handful of lawsuits to reach trial so far.

Roundup has been on the market for 20 years.
