HyLife plant sold

Premium Iowa Pork is the successful bidder for the HyLife plant at Windom, Minn., at a recent bankruptcy auction.

The deal requires bankruptcy court approval.

About 1,000 workers have lost their jobs, about half of them facing deportation because their work visas were tied to the plant.

HyLife of Manitoba also made a deal with AgriSwine Alliance of Aberdeen, South Dakota, for $1.3 million to buy pigs for $60 a head.
