Farmers becoming more optimstic

A Purdue University monthly survey of 400 farmers found they became a bit more optimistic in April.

It’s barometer on current conditions rose by eight points to 148.

The Index of Current Conditions rose by nine points to 141.

The Index of Future Expectations increased eight points to 152.

The improvement in sentiment came amidst ongoing tensions with many of U.S. agriculture’s largest trading partners, including Mexico, Canada and China.

Yet a majority of producers said they believe the increased use of tariffs will ultimately benefit the U.S. agricultural economy; a view reflected in the stronger future expectations reading.
