Property owner wins tax appeal

The owners of farm property in East Gwillimbury have won their appeal against a ruling by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC).

The appeals tribunal ruled the property cited in the appeal is being farmed and is eligible for reduced taxation.

George William Evans, Estate of Iva Gertrude Evans, Terry Evans filed the appeal with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, AgriBusiness and Food Appeal Tribunal.

MPAC argued that George Evans, after he bought the property from his father, failed to meet deadlines to qualify for the lower tax rate.

The tribunal, after ruling in Evans’ favour, assessed MPAC with legal costs, including HST, of $3,288.30.
