Chicken growers gain settlement from Sanderson Farms

Sanderson Farms has reached a settlement with eight broiler chicken growers, but the amount involved has yet to be finalized and released.

The lawsuit in 2020 said Sanderson Farms and other companies colluded to share detailed data on grower compensation with one another with the purpose and effect of artificially depressing grower compensation below competitive levels.

The settlement was before Judge Robert Shelby in Oklahoma.

Tyson Foods, Pilgrim’s Pride, Perdue Farms and Koch Foods were also named in the lawsuit.

Tyson has settled for $21 million, Perdue Farms for $14.75 million and Koch Farms for $15.5 million.

The case against Pilgrim’s Pride is still open.
