Veal plan amended

The Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission has amended regulations for Ontario Veal Farmers of Ontario.

The commission said the changes update the definition of veal cattle to better reflect industry needs and to allow Veal Farmers of Ontario to receive licence fees on animals that were not previously included in the regulations.

The changes also remove outdated references to the Livestock and Poultry Carcass Grading Regulations (Canada) from the veal cattle definition.

The commission said the changes have the support of Beef Farmers of Ontario.

Jennifer Haley of Veal Farmers of Ontario said a news release will be issued next week to further explain the changes.

She said basically it outlines which animals will be defined as veal for fee collection purposes. It will not affect the fees farmers pay, but it will define what goes to the Veal Farmers of Ontario and what goes to Beef Farmers of Ontario.
