CFIA adds more avian flu quarantines

The Canadian Food Inspection has added six more quarantine zones to the six declared on Tuesday, three more dated Nov. 7, three on the 8th.

And it added another in Alberta in its mission to prevent the spread of highly-pathogenic, contagious and deadly spread of highly-pathogenic avian influenza.

The three Nov. 7 additions are non-commercial flocks in Mount Waddington and Thompson-Nicola and a commercial flock in Chilliwack. The three on Wednesday are commercial flocks in the District of Kent and the cities of Chilliwack and Abbotsford.

In Sweden, authorities slaughtered the nation's largest egg-laying flock of 1.3 million birds to stop the disease.
