Eight rabies cases in Ontario

Eight cases of rabies were confirmed in Ontario during July.

Seven were bats and one was a skunk.

That brings Ontario’s total to 26 so far this year, 23 of them in bats, two in skunks and one in a racoon.

Nationally the total is 60 so far this year with Ontario first at more than double the second province, British Columbia, with 12, all in bats.

Bats accounted for 43 of the national total. Skunks were second at eight with five of those in Manitoba.
