Milk shipments to be tested for diseases

Ontario milk shipments are going to be tested annually for diseases such as Johne’s, Bovine Leukosis and Salmonella Dublin.

Dr. David Kelton of the University of Guelph’s population medicine studies is heading up the project.

The province is paying $167,000 and Dairy Farmers of Ontario $300,000.

Farmers will be able to access the results for their milk, but the researchers at Guelph will not know the identity of the farm from which the milk samples are collected.
