Beef fee might rise by $1.50

Beef Farmers of Ontario is asking its members to approve an increase of $1.50 in its checkoff to fund programs.

They will vote on the proposal during their annual meeting in February.

Craig McLaughlin, the president, told a meeting at the Grey-Bruce Farmers Week that inflation and increases to fund the national organization are two of many reasons for the increase which would garner about $1.2 million.

Farmers are beginning to rebuild herd numbers after culling them to the lowest count in decades.
