Chicken farmers win $100 million

Chicken farmers have won $100 million in a settlement of a class-action lawsuit against a chicken processor in the United States.

It is a record-setting amount for an antitrust lawsuit.

An Oklahoma federal judge granted final approval for the settlement of the lawsuit filed in August against Pilgrim’s Pride, owned by JBS USA, which is in turn owned by the largest meat-packing company in the world, JBS SA of Brazil.

The company denied any allegations of wrongdoing as part of the settlement, but also paid cash and promised not to use arbitration clauses or class-action waivers in contracts for the next five years.

Another $69 million was paid by others involved in the lawsuit.

Tyson agreed to pay $21 million, Perdue $14.75 million, Koch $15.5 million, and Sanderson $17.75 million, according to court records.
