CFIA imposes hefty fines

The Canadian Food Inspection agency has fined MPY Trading Ltd. of British Columbia $1,155,685 for breaking the law.

It falsely labeled crabs shipped to China as product of Canada when they were in fact imported from the United States.

MPY has gone out of business.

The company entered guilty pleas in November and the court levied two fines in December, one of $50,000 and the other of $1,105,685.

On November 29, 2024, in the Provincial Court of British Columbia, MPY Trading Ltd. pled guilty to two counts.

The fraud took place from December, 2019, to January 2020.
