Stomach flu hits University of Guelph


 

About 920 University of Guelph have been sticken with stomach lflu caused by a novovirus.


The number of cases more than doubled in two days and is still increasing.


Most are in an on-campus residence for 1,800 students, but the university said other on-campus residences are now being hit.


Dr. Nicola Mercer, medical officer of health for Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, said she expects the number of cases to rise in the coming days because of how easily the virus spreads.


"Norovirus is a terrible virus for anybody who's ever experienced it," she said Friday morning on CBC Kitchener-Waterloo.


The University of Guelph has some of Canada’s leading experts on food safety on its faculty.
