U.S. semen sales set a record

Semen sales in the United States set a record in 2020, reports the National Association of Animal Breeders.

There was an increase in dairy matings to beef sires and an increase in sales of sexed semen – females for dairy sires, males for beef sires.

Sales by NAAB members, which account for 95 per cent of the U.S. industry, hit 72 million, a four per cent increase.

While dairy unit sales in the USA decreased by 1.2 million units, the number of beef on dairy units increased by 1.5 million units representing a net increase of 300,000.

Female sex sorted dairy units increased by 700,000 units which should result in an increase of heifers born.
