Essential oils can counter grain toxins

Essential oils, such as oregano oil, thyme oil, and others rich in phenolic compounds, can effectively inhibit bacterial growth in feed and within the digestive tract and inhibit mould growth and reduce mycotoxin production in feed, says Van Beek Natural Science which markets them as IntegriVIX®

This makes feeds safer and improves digestion and pigs’ absorption of nutrients, the company said.

Other measures to consider as harvest approaches is keeping track of temperature and humidity levels in stored grain and using mould inhibitors and mycotoxin binders.
