Small businesses to share $5 million

The federal and Ontario ministers of agriculture were at Conestoga College in Kitchener to announce $5 million for small businesses in the agriculture and food industries.

Small is deemed to be companies employing fewer than 100 workers.

They said the money is to improve food safety systems, adopt new food safety and traceability equipment, technologies and standards and provide related training to employees.

This seems to be the same program announced earlier this summer.

And $5 million works out to an average of $10,000 each for 50 businesses.

Big whoop!

So big it drew the presence of both federal and provincial agriculture ministers.

Except the news media invitation did not say where the announcement would be made, other than somewhere in Cambridge. Of course I did not go.
